Aesthetic pruning is a combination of art and horticultural science.

It is the pruning of a plant to enhance its character and It is done in a style natural to the plant within the context of the garden and the architecture which surrounds the plant.

Aesthetic Pruning is a creative interpretation of small trees and shrubs. This living art form combines the artistic skill of the pruner, the essence of a tree or shrub, the science of horticulture and the needs of clients and surroundings.

The process of aesthetic pruning incorporates visual art and design principles to work with plant material within its unique setting. Due to the universality of its approach, the philosophy benefits all situations and garden styles. You can download my Master Pruner book for further reading.

As an Aesthetic pruner I focus on trees and shrubs under 15 feet tall. I am dedicated to the craft of pruning and versed in many styles and have a long term vision with an emphasis on beauty always making the right cuts for the right reason.

I will work with you to create the optimal place for your trees and their aesthetic in your landscape. I know what will or will not work from a horticultural perspective and other options available to you, including specific plant and tree selection and placement.

I know how to restore and preserve your garden, create a focal point, or prune to soften your architecture or to frame your view. I am available to educate and/or train you regarding pruning and/or long-term care of your plants and trees. Here are some samples.
